Wordless Wednesday: Caesaria, Israel 2006

That is certainly a large foot – but a very nice one. Isn’t Caesaria part of French Benjamin de Rothschild’s foundation? The baron spent a lot of his fortune in Israel I think to remember.

Rothschild had a major influence on early settlements in Israel, which may have in some way included Caesaria. However, as far as I know, Caesaria is currently run as part of the Israeli National Parks system, and is the site of ongoing archaeology investigations. It was originally a Roman port built with fascinating technology like underwater concrete, remaining important for many centuries. The old amphitheater has been restored to host modern concerts. OOPS now did I just violate the rules of wordless Wednesday?
